In the second Test match between India and Bangladesh, an ex-wicketkeeper batter commented, "Someone tell Rohit Sharma he is retired."

In the second Test match between India and Bangladesh, an ex-wicketkeeper batter commented, "Someone tell Rohit Sharma he is retired."
India captain Rohit Sharma showcased his vintage form during the second Test match against Bangladesh at the iconic Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. From the moment he stepped onto the field, Rohit exuded confidence, smashing back-to-back sixes to get off the mark in spectacular style. But his brilliance wasn't limited to his powerful stroke play. A key moment unfolded when umpire Richard Kettleborough ruled him out LBW. The decision had the potential to shift the momentum of the game, but Rohit’s sharp cricketing mind came into play as he immediately opted for a review. The successful DRS call not only saved his wicket but also illustrated his determination to battle through every challenging moment. His animated reaction after overturning the decision was a raw display of passion, underscoring just how much it meant to him to contribute to the team’s cause.

Rohit’s quick-fire innings of 23 runs from 11 balls set the tone for a record-breaking display. Team India rewrote history by racing to their fastest 50, 100, and 150 runs in Test cricket, with Rohit and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal spearheading the charge. In a remarkable display of aggression, the duo brought up the fastest team fifty in Test cricket history in just 18 balls, leaving the Bangladesh bowlers stunned. The attacking duo launched an assault that not only energized the crowd but also left Bangladesh shell-shocked.

Rohit’s third colossal six over long-on had even the commentators in awe, with former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik quipping, “Someone tell Rohit Sharma he’s retired. He’s no longer playing T20 internationals,” humorously capturing the disbelief and admiration of fans watching his fearless knock.

As the Rohit-Jaiswal fireworks ended, another Indian cricket legend quietly etched his name in the record books. Virat Kohli, in his own masterful style, surpassed 27,000 international runs, adding yet another feather to his already illustrious cap.

On the fourth day of the Test, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul delivered authoritative fifties, propelling India to a commanding total of 285 for nine before declaring. Jaiswal's aggressive 72 off just 52 balls and Rahul’s solid 68 from 43 helped India extend their lead to 52 runs, following Bangladesh’s first-innings collapse at 233. Kohli chipped in with a fluent 47 off 35 deliveries, adding to the pressure on the opposition.

With both bat and ball, India took firm control of the match, leaving Bangladesh with a mountain to climb. The combined brilliance of Rohit, Jaiswal, and Rahul, supported by Kohli’s milestone, painted a picture of dominance, setting up an exciting conclusion to the Test.

Kolkata: HC Denies Police Request, Allows 50,000 Physicians' Rally For Justice In RG Kar Case Tomorrow

On September 30, the Calcutta High Court gave its nod for a protest rally in Kolkata, organized by the Joint Platform of Doctors (JPD), to take place on October 1. The protest is in response to the shocking rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Kolkata: HC Denies Police Request, Allows 50,000 Physicians' Rally For Justice In RG Kar Case Tomorrow

Court's Ruling on the Rally

The rally, aimed at drawing attention to the horrific crime, will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM, following a route from College Square in north Kolkata to Rabindra Sadan in the south, passing through Central Avenue and Esplanade. The ruling was delivered by Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj, who emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during the protest.

Despite objections from Kolkata police, who sought to limit both the size of the rally and the length of the route, the court did not impose any such restrictions. Instead, it directed the Kolkata Police, under the leadership of the Joint Commissioner (Headquarters), to ensure adequate security arrangements for a smooth and peaceful demonstration.

Responsibilities of the Organizers

The court also tasked the organizers, an alliance of medical professionals under the Association of Health Service Doctors, West Bengal, with providing sufficient volunteers to manage the rally’s participants and ensure that the protest remains peaceful.

Dispute Over Restrictions

The organizers had initially applied for permission to hold the rally with around 50,000 participants. However, the Kolkata Police had granted approval for only 1,000 people, limiting the march to a shorter route from College Square to Rani Rashmoni Avenue at Esplanade.

Challenging this restriction, the JPD took the matter to the High Court, arguing that since the public was voluntarily joining the protest, it was impractical to enforce a participant limit. The group contended that their right to protest peacefully, especially on such a serious issue, should not be curtailed.

State’s Stance and Supreme Court Precedent

On behalf of the state, Advocate General Kishore Dutta defended the imposed restrictions, stating that the government has the authority to regulate rallies and protests to maintain public order. However, Justice Bharadwaj referred to a Supreme Court ruling related to the RG Kar rape-murder case, which upheld the right to peaceful protests and urged authorities not to disrupt demonstrations held in a peaceful manner.

A Protest Fueled by Outrage

The rally is a direct response to the brutal murder of a young postgraduate medical trainee, whose body was found with severe injuries on August 9 in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This horrific incident has sparked widespread outrage among the medical community and the public alike, leading to calls for justice and action against such violence.

With the High Court’s approval, the stage is set for a significant demonstration in Kolkata, where the voices of many will unite to demand justice and safety for those in the medical profession.

'Shameful' Ishan and Ruturaj snub as 'Gambhir influence' detected in India team announcement: Agarkar showed no compassion.

BCCI Announces India's Squad for T20I Series Against Bangladesh: Fresh Faces, Controversy, and Gambhir’s Influence?

On Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, scheduled to be played on home soil. The announcement has sparked both excitement and debate, with notable inclusions, surprising omissions, and a few selections that have left fans wondering about behind-the-scenes influences.

'Shameful' Ishan and Ruturaj snub as 'Gambhir influence' detected in India team announcement: Agarkar showed no compassion.

The Rise of Mayank Yadav & the Return of Varun Chakravarthy

Making headlines is Mayank Yadav, who earned his maiden India call-up following a stellar run in the 2024 IPL. His ability to consistently bowl 150+ kmph deliveries caught the eyes of selectors, and fans will be keen to see how this speedster performs on the international stage.

Another significant return is that of Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner who last represented India in a T20I back in 2021. Chakravarthy’s resurgence during the recent IPL, where he played a pivotal role for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by taking 21 wickets in 14 games, has earned him a spot in the national side once again.

A Fresh-Looking Squad with Key Players Rested

In a strategic move, the BCCI has named a rather refreshed squad for this series, led by Suryakumar Yadav. Several top players such as Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Mohammed Siraj have been rested to keep them fresh for the home Test series against New Zealand, scheduled for later next month. However, the squad isn’t short on experience, with established names like Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Rinku Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh adding depth and balance to the lineup.

This approach signals the BCCI's intent to test India's squad depth ahead of future international assignments, offering emerging players a golden opportunity to make their mark on the big stage.

Fan Discontent: The Omission of Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad

Despite the buzz around the new inclusions, the announcement has not been without controversy. Fans quickly took to social media to voice their displeasure over the exclusion of two rising stars—Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both players had showcased excellent form in recent domestic competitions and seemed deserving of a place in the T20I lineup.

Ishan Kishan, who last played for India in December 2023, had a rocky phase after losing his BCCI central contract due to a disciplinary issue. However, his performances in recent domestic cricket, including a century in the Buchi Babu tournament and a brilliant 111 for India C in the Duleep Trophy, revived hopes of a comeback. His omission, especially when only one specialist opener—Abhishek Sharma—was selected, left many fans scratching their heads.

Similarly, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had scored 77* and 49 in the T20I series against Zimbabwe in July, continued his strong run with 232 runs in the Duleep Trophy. His exclusion, despite this form, further fueled frustration among supporters who felt he had done enough to earn a spot.

The Gambhir Factor: A Silent Influence on Selection?

Adding to the intrigue surrounding the squad is the perception of **Gautam Gambhir’s influence**. Several fans highlighted that Gambhir, who was the mentor of KKR during the IPL 2024 season, may have played a role in the selection of **Varun Chakravarthy** and **Harshit Rana**, another KKR player who impressed with 19 wickets in 13 matches. Gambhir has since moved on from KKR to take up the role of head coach for the Indian team, and his connection to these players hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Additionally, Mayank Yadav’s rise to the national team might also have been influenced by Gambhir, as the former Indian opener had previously worked with Mayank during his mentorship stint with the Lucknow Super Giants in the previous IPL season. This speculation has added another layer of drama to an already fascinating squad selection process.

Looking Ahead: The T20I Series

The three-match T20I series against Bangladesh will be held across three venues: Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad, on October 6, 9, and 12 respectively. The series promises to be an exciting opportunity to witness India’s next generation of cricketers showcase their skills, while fans remain eager to see how this new-look team performs under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav.

Though the squad’s selection has raised eyebrows, it is clear that the BCCI is looking to strike a balance between testing new talent and maintaining a competitive edge. Whether this gamble pays off, and whether the excluded stars like Kishan and Gaikwad get another shot, will be something to watch closely.

In the meantime, the excitement for the series continues to build, even as debates over the selection linger.

The day MS Dhoni left Rao Iftikhar to protest to Pakistan's coach, saying, "Iss tarah mara tha hamare ko"

MS Dhoni’s journey in international cricket began in an unexpected manner. When he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh in 2004, he was run out for a duck—a quiet and inauspicious start to what would become an extraordinary career. But by the time he played his final ODI match, Dhoni had accumulated 10,773 runs over 297 innings, proving himself to be one of the game’s greatest finishers. Fittingly, his last innings also ended in a run-out, but this time, after scoring a hard-fought half-century.

The day MS Dhoni left Rao Iftikhar to protest to Pakistan's coach, saying, "Iss tarah mara tha hamare ko"

In between these two moments, Dhoni’s legacy was forged. One particular match, however, was the turning point that catapulted him into the spotlight as Indian cricket's next big star. This crucial game was none other than the high-octane India vs Pakistan fixture, a rivalry known for its pressure and drama. The date was April 2005, and Pakistan, captained by Inzamam-ul-Haq, was touring India. On the other side, India was led by Sourav Ganguly, whose leadership would prove instrumental in Dhoni’s rise.

India batted first, but after the early dismissal of Sachin Tendulkar, it was clear that India needed someone to stabilize the innings. Up stepped Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who, at the time, was still relatively unproven on the international stage. In a surprising move, Ganguly promoted Dhoni to the number three spot, sacrificing his own batting position to give the youngster a chance at the top order. Dhoni now found himself at the crease alongside Virender Sehwag, a player known for his aggressive style and blistering centuries.

As Dhoni walked in, long hair flowing, there was little indication of the fireworks to come. He and Sehwag quickly set about building a partnership, putting together 96 crucial runs. Sehwag, true to form, attacked the Pakistan bowling with a flurry of boundaries, scoring 74 runs from just 40 balls before falling. With Sehwag gone, the pressure was squarely on Dhoni’s shoulders, but rather than wilt, he seized the opportunity.

What followed was a sensational display of Dhoni’s potential. Unleashing his power, he smashed his first ODI century, scoring 148 off 123 balls, with 15 boundaries and 4 massive sixes. His innings stunned the opposition and electrified the crowd. In that moment, Dhoni wasn’t just another player—he was India’s next big star.

The innings left an indelible mark on Pakistan as well. Years later, Misbah-ul-Haq recalled the match during a talk show, "The Pavilion." He shared a behind-the-scenes conversation, where Rao Iftikhar, a Pakistani bowler, warned the team’s coach about Dhoni, saying, "This batsman is very dangerous; we need to be careful with him." At the time, Dhoni had already displayed his big-hitting abilities with India A, but this was his moment on the international stage.

Ironically, Dhoni had struggled in previous matches, managing only three runs while batting lower down the order. Pakistan’s coach, Bob Woolmer, reportedly joked with his players after Dhoni’s monumental innings, "Did you really let him score 150 runs?" The quip reflected both astonishment and begrudging admiration for Dhoni’s commanding performance.

In the aftermath of that match, Pakistan’s players, including Iftikhar, could only reflect on how they had been dismantled by the young wicketkeeper-batsman. Dhoni’s 148 runs had not just won India the game—it had announced his arrival as a formidable force in world cricket.

This innings marked the beginning of an illustrious career that would see MS Dhoni go on to captain India, and in doing so, become the only skipper to win all three major ICC white-ball trophies—the ICC T20 World Cup, the ICC Cricket World Cup, and the ICC Champions Trophy.

What started with a run-out for a duck evolved into one of the most decorated cricket careers in history. That April day in 2005 will forever be remembered as the moment MS Dhoni transformed from a promising young cricketer into a legend of the game.

By splitting Bangladesh, India possesses sufficient authority to form another nation: Pradyot Debbarma

Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the royal scion of Tripura and founder of Tipra Motha, delivered a bold and evocative speech on Thursday during a massive solidarity rally. The rally was held to show support for the minority communities in Bangladesh, who have been facing escalating violence and discrimination. In his address, Debbarma made a striking assertion: India holds the power to divide Bangladesh, just as it had previously divided Pakistan to create the country in 1971.

By splitting Bangladesh, India possesses sufficient authority to form another nation: Pradyot Debbarma

"I am not here today as the leader of Tipra Motha," Debbarma began, "but as a proud member of the royal family of Tripura, a family whose people once ruled the regions of Brahmanbaria, Khagrachari, Comilla, and Chottogram—areas that now belong to Bangladesh. It is heartbreaking to witness the suffering of our people, who were part of Tripura 70 years ago, now facing attacks on their temples, churches, and very lives."

He expressed deep sorrow at the plight of these communities, emphasizing that the violence they face does not reflect the culture of Tripura. "This is not who we are," he said. "The Maharajas of Tripura fostered a tradition of tolerance and unity. We built temples, mosques, and provided land to Christians. This spirit of coexistence is the true legacy of Tripura, a legacy that Bangladesh must not forget."

Debbarma highlighted that the cultural essence of Tripura has always embraced religious harmony. "In Tripura, we honor all faiths. We perform pujas, we revere Buddha, and we respect Christ. Even today, Muslim communities in Tripura safeguard our Hindu deities, and the Raj Baari continues to hold Islamic prayers. This is the India we belong to—a land of diversity, respect, and peace."

Turning his attention to Bangladesh, Debbarma did not hold back his critique. "Without Tripura’s support, Bangladesh would not exist today. The Mukti Bahini, which fought for Bangladesh’s independence, was aided by Tripura and India. Yet now, we hear slogans from Bangladesh challenging India and threatening to capture Tripura and the Northeast. Let me remind them—the Muslims of India will show the Muslims of Bangladesh what true Islam is. We must unite and pressure the Indian government to hold Bangladesh accountable for the harm done to its minorities."

In a historic context, Debbarma referred to the long-standing friendship between India and Bangladesh’s founding leaders. "Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s father, and his daughter, Sheikh Hasina, were once friends of India. That friendship has kept India’s response measured and diplomatic for many years. But that friendship no longer holds the same weight," he warned.

His message grew even more forceful as he concluded, "If Bangladesh believes it can challenge India, I must remind them—India has the power to divide Bangladesh, just as we divided Pakistan to create it. If you continue to harm our minority communities, India will not stand idly by. We are the nation of Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Sam Manekshaw. And we will defend the principles they stood for."

Debbarma's impassioned speech resonated with the crowd, emphasizing the importance of unity, historical responsibility, and the strength that India continues to hold on the global stage.

India's probable 15-man squad for the Bangladesh T20I Series includes Sanju Samson (in); Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal (out).

India vs Bangladesh T20I Series Overview

Following the conclusion of the two-match Test series, India and Bangladesh will engage in a three-match T20I series. These games are scheduled on the 6th, 9th, and 12th of October, and will be hosted in three major Indian cities: Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad. Due to the tight scheduling of the India-New Zealand Test series, which commences only four days after the Bangladesh T20Is, many regular Test players might be unavailable for this T20I series.

India's probable 15-man squad for the Bangladesh T20I Series includes Sanju Samson (in); Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal (out).

Key Highlights of the T20I Series

1. Tight Schedule Conflicts: With the Test regulars needing rest before the New Zealand series, India is expected to field a second-string squad, which has become a familiar scenario in recent times.

2. Captaincy and Leadership:

   - Suryakumar Yadav: Having been chosen to lead the side, Suryakumar Yadav takes over the T20I captaincy from Rohit Sharma. His appointment is notable as he was chosen over Hardik Pandya, a usual contender for the leadership role in the shorter formats.

   - Vice-Captaincy Vacancy: In a rare move, India might proceed without naming a vice-captain for this series.

3. Expectations for the Squad: Fans and analysts are eagerly awaiting the official squad announcement, with a predicted 15-member team already generating buzz.

What is the Assam Accord's Clause 6 that Himanta indicated the state administration will put into effect?

Assam Government Takes Decisive Steps Towards Implementing Assam Accord Recommendations

In a significant development following a meeting with the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Wednesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma set the wheels in motion to implement 52 key recommendations made by the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee. These recommendations pertain to Clause 6 of the historic Assam Accord, a long-pending demand for safeguarding the cultural, social, and linguistic identity of the Assamese people. This step, as announced by the Assam government earlier this month, comes more than four years after the high-level committee submitted its report in February 2020.
What is the Assam Accord's Clause 6 that Himanta indicated the state administration will put into effect?

However, it was noted that 15 of the key recommendations would not be implemented immediately as they require Constitutional amendments. Sarma assured that these issues would be raised at the appropriate forums with the central government in due course, as shared via his post on X (formerly Twitter).

Bangladesh officially protests Amit Shah's remarks from the Jharkhand rally.

Bangladesh Lodges Strong Protest Over Amit Shah’s Remarks on Bangladeshi Nationals

Bangladesh officially protests Amit Shah's remarks from the Jharkhand rally.

NEW DELHI – Bangladesh has officially lodged a protest with India, expressing deep concern over remarks made by India’s Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, during a recent political rally in Jharkhand. The comments, which targeted Bangladeshi nationals, have sparked diplomatic friction between the two neighboring countries.

On September 23, the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed a formal protest note to the Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka. The note voiced Bangladesh's "serious reservations" and conveyed a "deep sense of hurt and extreme displeasure" over Shah’s remarks. It urged the Indian government to caution its political leaders against making inflammatory and "unacceptable" statements.

Bangladesh emphasized that comments from high-ranking officials, particularly those that single out citizens of neighboring nations, are harmful to the spirit of mutual respect and cooperation that both countries have fostered over the years. The foreign ministry stressed that such statements undermine the friendly relations that have been built between Dhaka and New Delhi.

The protest stems from a speech delivered by Amit Shah on Friday during an election rally in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district. Shah, in his address, took a strong stance against alleged infiltrators from Bangladesh, stating, "There is no place for infiltrators in the state. They are marrying our daughters, grabbing land, and destroying the rich tribal culture and heritage. We will drive each one of them out... Let the lotus bloom here."

These comments have caused a diplomatic stir, with Bangladesh taking strong exception to the insinuations. Dhaka now calls on India to ensure that political rhetoric does not harm the delicate balance of bilateral ties between the two countries, which have long shared a history of cooperation and friendship.

IND vs BAN: BCCI names the India team for the second Test against Bangladesh.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the second Test against Bangladesh, maintaining complete faith in the 16-man team that triumphed in the first Test. The much-anticipated second Test will kick off on September 27 in Kanpur, with no changes made to the squad.

IND vs BAN: BCCI names the India team for the second Test against Bangladesh.

KL Rahul's Position: Another Opportunity or A Swap?

Rumors were swirling about KL Rahul’s potential exclusion after his underwhelming performance in Chennai, where he managed just 16 runs in the first innings. Despite this, the BCCI has opted to retain him, either signaling another shot at redemption or paving the way for Sarfaraz Khan to step into the Playing XI. Sarfaraz, already part of the squad, could be the change to watch if Rahul’s form continues to be in question.

Dominance in the First Test: India's Commanding Win

India’s squad announcement follows a resounding victory in the first Test at Chennai, where they crushed Bangladesh by 280 runs. The match was wrapped up before lunch on day 4, showcasing India’s superiority in all departments.

On the morning of day 4, Bangladesh resumed their innings at 158/4, with hopes resting on their captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and veteran all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan. However, their partnership of 48 runs was swiftly broken by the ever-reliable Ravi Ashwin, who dismissed Shakib for 25 runs. This breakthrough initiated a rapid collapse of the Bangladeshi batting order.

Ravindra Jadeja followed up by sending Litton Das back to the pavilion soon after, further denting the visitors' resistance. Ashwin continued his devastating spell, claiming the wicket of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, completing his five-wicket haul in style. Bangladesh’s hopes flickered briefly with Shanto's brave innings of 82, but Jadeja struck once more to remove him, extinguishing any chance of a comeback.

India’s spinners quickly wrapped up the tail, taking the final two wickets and bowling out Bangladesh for 234. Ravi Ashwin’s six-wicket haul (6/88), combined with his century in the first innings, earned him the Player of the Match accolade for his match-winning all-round display.

The Unchanged Squad for the Second Test

Heading into the second Test, India’s squad remains unchanged, showcasing the team’s depth and balance. Rohit Sharma will lead the side, alongside experienced players and promising youngsters.

India’s Squad for the Second Test Against Bangladesh:

- Rohit Sharma (C)

- Yashasvi Jaiswal

- Shubman Gill

- Virat Kohli

- KL Rahul

- Sarfaraz Khan

- Rishabh Pant (WK)

- Dhruv Jurel (WK)

- R Ashwin

- Ravindra Jadeja

- Axar Patel

- Kuldeep Yadav

- Mohammed Siraj

- Akash Deep

- Jasprit Bumrah

- Yash Dayal

With momentum on their side and an in-form squad, India will look to secure another dominant performance against Bangladesh in Kanpur. All eyes will be on KL Rahul and whether he can make a statement or if Sarfaraz Khan will be given his chance to shine.
